Art & Democracy: Art Intervention Project
LIFELINES


This project will be a collaborative piece in Colorado Springs, CO. Individuals can contribute their lifeline on a world map starting with their place of birth and ending with Colorado Springs. They will also be asked to give their first name, age, and write a small statement as to why projects like this can be beneficial to us as a whole.

The biggest challenge for me will be reaching out to the diverse community I want to be a part of. I want to become more comfortable communicating and producing work that I care about. I am in the process of discovering what my passions are. It is important to me to spread the message to those around me that every person comes from a different place with different challenges. By being non-judgmental of the actions of others, it will be easier to be compassionate of those around us.

I will be posting dates, locations, and the map's progress throughout the project. My goal is to donate the final piece to UCCS in April.

Difficulties finding project locations

There have been shortcomings during the process of the “LIFELINES” project. The past two weeks have consisted of me going to local spaces in Colorado Springs, calling locations, and emailing managers. Trying to get booth locations approved to set the map up has left me with no follow-up locations so far. I am realizing that it is difficult for others to find value in the work I care about. I should never expect anyone to spend extra time to accommodate me. I will keep trying. I do not want this project to be readjusted to represent only UCCS students because I care about the diversity of my community as a whole. This blog post will be updated to represent each location until the goal of 100 people is reached. University of Colorado Colorado Springs LIFELINES Booth

This morning was the first run of the collaborative-project "Lifelines" in the University Center at UCCS. I had the opportunity to have positive conversations with students and even some helpful critique on the process and delivery of the project. The booth included a 28" x 40" map of the World that people could use the pins and thread provided to map their Lifelines, starting with their birthplace. There was also a journal for those people to write their first name, age, and to answer a question about how collaborative projects can benefit our community. Thank you to those who were able to contribute and to those who helped me haul and document today! My goal is to reach at least 100 people in a broad spectrum of diversity who live in Colorado Springs. So far, 19 people have given their time to trace their Lifelines on the map and put an entry in the journal.
